About Me

I am Dr. Keerthi Talari Bommakanti, a Consultant Rheumatologist and Clinical Immunologist with over a decade of experience in the care of patients with autoimmune and inflammatory rheumatic diseases.

I completed my MBBS and MD in General Medicine from JIPMER, followed by DM Rheumatology from Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). My academic journey has been marked by consistent excellence, with 26 medals across MBBS and MD, including recognition as the Best Outgoing MBBS Student and Best Outgoing MD (General Medicine) Postgraduate. These achievements reflect a strong foundation in clinical medicine and a lifelong commitment to academic rigor.

Currently, I work as a Senior Consultant Rheumatologist at Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad, where I have been in clinical practice since 2015. My work involves the diagnosis and long-term management of conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, spondyloarthritis, vasculitis, and other autoimmune disorders, with a focus on evidence-based, individualized patient care.

Special Interest: Lupus Care

A major area of my clinical and academic interest is Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (Lupus). Lupus is a complex, multisystem autoimmune disease that often affects young individuals and requires coordinated, long-term care.

Recognising the unique medical, psychological, and educational needs of lupus patients, I am currently in the process of establishing a dedicated Lupus Clinic, aimed at:

  • Comprehensive and structured lupus care

  • Early detection of organ involvement

  • Regular monitoring and patient education

  • Multidisciplinary collaboration for holistic management

This initiative reflects my belief that lupus care goes beyond medications and requires continuity, counselling, and patient empowerment.

Academic & Editorial Roles

Alongside clinical practice, I am actively involved in medical academics and publishing. I currently serve as:

  • Associate Editor, Oxford Medical Case Reports and Rheumatology Advances in Practise

  • Assistant Editor, Indian Journal of Rheumatology (since 2016)

  • Executive Editor, IRA E-Newsletter (2023–2025), where I oversaw editorial planning and content curation, including special issues on emerging topics such as artificial intelligence in rheumatology

I am also a member of the Executive Board of the Indian Rheumatology Association (2024–2026) and serve as the Indian Ambassador for the Asia Pacific League Against Rheumatism (APLAR) Young Rheumatologists Forum. Through these roles, I contribute to academic mentoring, research dissemination, and rheumatology education at a national and international level.
